I'm loath to say anything about the iPhone: there's more than enough coverage already. Still, I'd like to say that I'm impressed with the interface demos I've seen.

Crash testing a deathtrap. The only way it could be worse would be to deploy spikes rather than airbags.
Seriously, what is the frame of this car made out of, marshmallows and wishes?

Well, SznakFest 2007 has come and gone, but where was the music and dancing? The games were awesome, but SznakFests must have more variety of activities. SznakFests also need awards ceremonies. Some truly fantastic comments deserve applause. It is armed with this knowledge and a healthy respect for revisionist history that I am redubbing June 16th's activities, "SznakFest 2007: The Gaming Session".

Yes: 2007 will see a proper SznakFest. Your award-winning comments will get their recognition. There will be viewing of ridiculous videos, awards, music, rating of other people, and still games downstairs.

Of course, all of you will be at my place on Saturday night.

Quickie Movie Review: "Away From Her"

I saw this movie last night and it was so sad! Ladies: get your mini-Kleenex boxes ready.

This movie is about an older couple dealing with the wife's descent into Alzheimer's. Grant, played by Gordon Pinsent does everything in his power to maintain the happiness of his "perfect girl", Fiona, played by Julie Christie. The movie shows the strength of their relationship through a shattering upset, and fortunately their relationship is complex enough that the story is interesting.

And so tragic.

It's tough to find fault with the movie, as the acting, cinematography, and story are all excellent. My only complaint is the obvious foreshadowing of what happens at the end of the movie. I understand why it had to be there, but I feel like the ending would have jerked more tears had it been a surprise. I think I just expect to be surprised by movies all the time, which isn't always necessary.

So go see it: I say it's a 8.5/10. It's playing at the Princess Theatre.

This demo starts out just "neat" and by the time you're halfway through, it's pretty amazing.

Photosynth is this insane application for presenting visual information spatially. It is also capable of generating 3D models based on several photographs.

This is a brilliant idea... a 3D scanner built from LEGO. A webcam snaps pictures of the object placed in the bowl, and milk is slowly added to show "slices" of the object. I love the Geekologie comment:
Which is perfect, because I really need a scan of some Lucky Charms.

Ok... I hadn't seen the original clip when I saw this, but that doesn't make it any less awesome. I guess Shatner was in a race car doing 160MPH and there's video of him yelling "wooooh!" the whole time. This video brilliantly uses the footage from the Conan O'Brien show where the car video was played to create music... Thanks to Andronika!
